Our World TodayOur children today are surrounded by technology. Digital technology is such a large part of their lives that they barely notice it is there. These students can download music and listen to their selection on Ipods, they can surf the internet to find and play games, they can email friends and relatives to stay in touch, and they can use a mobile phone to message their friends. It is a very technological world in which these children feel very comfortable.

Our Year 3 Class and Technology
Our children attend a small rural school and our classroom consists of 24 students with a fairly even number of boys and girls. Each student brings their own individual characteristics to the room but they all share a common interest of technology. Our students are exposed to technology in many areas of their lives and it is important that we encourage them to explore it and use it as a learning tool. The Melbourne Declaration on the Educational Goals for Young Australians (MCEETYA 2008) recognises that in a digital age, and with rapid and continuing changes in the ways that people share, use, develop and communicate with ICT, young people need to be highly skilled in its use. Technology will play a vital role in our English learning this term as we explore creating texts using a web tool called Storybird. In alignment with the Australian Curriculum our goal is to plan, draft and publish imaginative, informative and persuasive texts, selecting print, and multimodal elements appropriate to the audience and purpose (ACELY1682). By integrating technology into our learning it will allow students to:
1. Be motivated learners- computer based activities can provide stimulus that encourages participation.
2. Present and organised information in a variety of forms inspiring creative learning.
3. Develops student's literacy skills and strategies.
The following pages contain more information on the way that technology can enhance your child's learning.
