Technology can enhance Literacy Skills and Strategies
New technologies are changing current literacy learning for our students. These new technologies can be used to build on the solid literacy skills of writing, reading, and comprehension as well as enhancing other learning and skills. The Australian Curriculum (2014), supports students in learning to make the most of the technologies available to them, and adapting to new ways of doing things as technologies evolve.
How can technology improve literacy skills and strategies?
1. Technology is interactive which engages students in their work meaning more time spent reading, writing and learning.
2. Technology allows students to access professional tools to help them correct, improve, and edit their work, allowing them to enhance their literacy skills and take more responsibility for their learning.
3. Students are able to access many apps on Ipads and tablets that supports and develops their learning of literacy skills.
4. Students can chose to insert images, sounds, and videos alongside their written text which sees students produce creative, complex work.
Below is a Youtube clip demonstrating an app that can be used with any grade 3 students to enhance their literacy learning.
